I am honored and very appreciative that Rabbi Soroka took of his precious time to read, ponder, and respond to my Toraso sugya on ורפא ירפא. As always, his observations and thoughts are insightful and illuminating, and contributed meaningful to my understanding of the sugya. In response to his comments …

[With the intent of providing the context of my responses, I am taking the liberty of paraphrasing Rabbi Soroka’s comments to which I am responding. I understand that in so doing I am taking the risk of not accurately conveying the nuances of his words, or – חס ושלום – misconstruing his ideas.]

1) Rabbi Soroka: As the Ramban is explaining, and emphasizing, the transgression of King Asa was…

Yonah:

Thank you for taking the time to read my piece, think about it, and ask stimulating questions on the ענין.

In response:

Yonah: 1) Is the רמב"ן's question solely based on the pasuk in בחוקתי and without that pasuk it would be simply understood that one is entitled or even obligated to heal himself/get healed or even without the pasuk logic dictates that Hashem does everything for a reason and unfortunately due to our time period we are bereft of Nevi'im to help us pinpoint what that is, so we would have to "suffer the consequences" till the "pain" is מכפר?

LRB: For clarification, the רמב''ן commentary on בחקתו, is actually a fairly long discussion that is prompted by…

Abba,

It always amazes me how clear and concise you can be with your words! I enjoyed this presentation, not only because of how interesting the topic was, but also because of how well you presented it. You are one of the busiest people I know and, somehow, you managed to put together this beautiful sugya in a way that would impress anyone who learns it!! You are a true inspiration to us all!

1. You suggested a simple understanding of the Reshus that a doctor is given to heal. You said, “Since one is obliged to pay for the cost of healthcare of one whom he injured, it must be permissible to render such services.” You also mentioned that…

Dr. Brown, in my brain the one word that comes to mind after reading this is masterpiece. The nuances and subtleties of this shtickle are incredible and made it so enjoyable to delve into. Easy it wasn't, but enjoyable it was. I did have a couple questions:

1) This is not a question on you, but do we know what Rashi does with Tosfos's double loshon question?

2) It seemed that the Ibn Ezra was saying that the heter refua was limited to external injuries and not internal ones. However, in the Avi Ezri pshat he says that essentially it's up to a person to take care of their health. If a person clings to Hashem then he can prevent…

Abba,

I really enjoyed your presentation! As always it was written very clearly and your observations and points flow so naturally that it almost felt like I was coming up with the answer on my own as I was going along!

Sorry for the late response, I read it on YT and forgot to comment earlier. Shua may have eluded to this as well but I was wondering if this is a Klal din or individual? Does this distinction only apply when there are not neviem? Meaning to say if there are that it would not depend on if you were yourself a shalym?

Thanks again for writing it out so clearly and nicely, it is also meaningful as people…
