Toraso Presentation 1.5 - Noam Brown - Hesiba by the Seder

Good Morning! Here it is the big Number 5! It is very special to be able to hear some Torah from Eretz Yisroel! Noam prepared this Chabura for Toraso, and his Rebbi suggested that he shares it with his Yeshiva. Please Enjoy!! I am sure it will be engaging! We look forward to your comments, they are essential to our experience!

(menashes Q) If the whole idea behind the leaning is because we are showing that we are now free, then why do we use leaning to show that. For me, leaning (at least the way we do it) is not so comfortable to do while we are eating/drinking. It's not like people now a days (who are free) lean during meals. To show that we are free, wouldn't we do something that is done now a days to show our freedom? I can understand, however, that if the purpose is to tell over about how we were slaves and we became free, then we would do what they did in those days (lean while eating) to indicate freedom.

Noam,

This was an amazing presentation! You not only did a great job making sure the information was given over clearly, but you also did it while keeping everyone engaged. I was getting tremendous nachas (as your older brother) watching you give over this presentation!

In reading everyone's questions/comments and your answers to their questions, many of my questions were answered. However, I do have one question left. If the whole idea behind the leaning is because we are showing that we are now free, then why do we use leaning to show that. For me, leaning (at least the way we do it) is not so comfortable to do while we are eating/drinking. It's not like people now a…

(Laivy's Q) Based on your beautiful explanation about the reason that we in fact do lean for both and that is because we sort of switch mindsets, is that an opinion that is actually brought down or that is itself a way of fulfilling both opinions...?

(A) I didnt see it brought down anywhere its kind of a thought that we had to answer how this all works together

(Shuas q) You were medayik the lashon of the Ramba'm in this that he says לפיכך כשסועד that it is mashma NOT the first two. Doesn't he himself say though that we have to lean all four? Actually, as I write this, I think I chapped the answer you will tell me, but I will wait and see.

(A)I believe he is saying that while in the opinion of "Leharos" but i dont think that means he would argue on the opinion of "liros"

Thank you shua for setting up this whole thing, being on top of it and making time to make sure it happens!!

(gavs question) After hearing your explanation for leaning during all four cups, it seems like we are actually distancing ourselves from the suffering; we tell the story when recounting the period of enslavement, and we show/relive the story when recounting our liberation. Are we, as a people, too far-removed and privileged to subject ourselves to such suffering? Instead, have we handpicked which experiences we choose to tell or relive?

Gav thanks for watching! First of all i'm not sure I can give a proper answer to your question because I dont know of all the instances in which we choose to show over tell, other than in this situation. but at the same time in this case I don't think…
